God damn, do you really need to be told everything twice?

I've got a half-decent vocabulary and a tendency towards profanity- thank the Army for the latter.

Doesn't mean I'm heated about anything. Don't flatter yourself by thinking you've upset me.

I can agree with what Decay is stating. There can be "off-beaters" within a certain aspect of established viewpoints. I.E. I identify as an optimistic nihilist. Most people presume to find nihilist as suicidal idiots, attention seekers. I have always been to the understanding that one day I will die and nothing will matter. I know there is little correlation between nihilism and anarchy, but often those facets can be related.

The point that I personally feel Decay is trying to convey is something similar to Slab City in Ca. Would you say that I am correct or off the wall with the others?

that sort of situation happened again, since this thread's inception. only this time, someone's husband died unexpectedly.

she's been a friend of mine for about 20 years, and here's the kicker- she's an employee of UC Berkeley. they would not allow her to take paid bereavement leave to handle everything involved in losing a spouse.

you would think that the stronghold of liberalism in America would be the most likely place that a person would receive that kind of support, but nope. the system has fucking thrown us all overboard. don't count on it when the inevitable bad times come, because it won't be there.

we crowdfunded her time off. I threw in $100. all told she got somewhere north of $5K. of course she is still dealing with grief, but our tribe took care of her so she could take time off to handle what she needed to.

I'm still bristling at that being called any kind of socialism.

The problem with both sides is the lie to exaggerate and try to make a point.

    http://hr.berkeley.edu/labor/contracts/GS/leaves

3 days leave is standard across the country, whether that's enough or not isn't the issue.

I ended up taking 3 extra days of unpaid leave when my ex-wife's father passed away (in a fucking horrific manner).

You want to argue we should get more time for bereavement pay, I'm with that, but don't blatantly lie about what is and isn't paid for.

Man and we were doing so well there...for a second...

I'm going to agree with Marshall in regard to the UC Berkley situation. From the new information given, it sounds like the woman in question had a contract that afforded her certain rights and certain compensations, bereavement leave wasn't one of them (although the amount of time that was being asked for hasn't been discussed, which no one has pointed out here, but usually a week is sufficient to settle funeral arrangements, sounds like she was asking for more if I had to hazard a guess).

Was that woman in a terrible situation, of course, having lost a loved one on multiple occasions now I can understand the pain and suffering involved, especially when you are the one having to make the final arrangements.

However, UC Berkley shouldn't really be on the hook for that and I don't really see how that is a failure of government, which would result in justification of anarchy, which was the initial motivation for this thread (discussions on anarchy).

I give a big high five to those community members that supported the woman in question in her difficult time, but that's just being a good human and not really an indictment of the government in that situation.

What's the problem, snowflake? Too dumb to use one of the search options yourself? Do you need your mommy to hold your dick while you pee as well?

[quote]No, its not. Life is tough. Bad things happen to good people. When bad things happen to good people, it is not the responsibility of the government to make them whole. Unless, you know, socialism is your thing and all.

Gotcha, sucker. We're talking about an employer's policies. Socialism is not involved. I would have the same argument if it were a private organization, because it's a question of ethics.

By saying "delusional decay strikes again"?
No. In this case I'm referring to something you said to someone else. But since you apparently can't figure out the search feature, I'm guessing you might also have trouble reviewing your own post history.

And regarding the comic, didn't you just finish saying "ikyabwmi"? But I'm the one irony is lost on. Right.

Ahh, there is the little piece of information that was missing! Still nice of your group of friends to help out, but that ain't the responsibility of the UC system.
    Yes it is.

I am betting that last salvo will net you in another vacation.

The reason given was that she had very recently been promoted out of a union job into management and therefore was no longer entitled.

That said, fuck what you think, you're a troll and an asshole.

She got promoted to a better paying situation with different rules and she lost her husband (which sucks balls). She is a victim of circumstance, not the failure of the government.

I don't know, but I am doubting very much that the UC system would deny an employee bereavement time off unless they actually didn't work for the UC system and they are a contractor or something. So I think this story stinks.
