Yes paid out of govt coffers only, since they thought they could treat veterans issues cheaped than the private sector. While I suppose your correct,it's not a true single payer system, it is the most accurate depiction of what a federal govt managed and provided health care system will look like in this country. Many of the issues with the US. VA. System are mirrored in most other govt managed care systems around the world in varying degrees of severity, from long wait times to be seen or get treated to being relegateed to near death or loss of limb, before care is deemed "cost approiate"......

All you pointed out is that Single payer is organized by the government rather then by private institutions, without stating how that is inherently bad. While ignoring that the VA is poorly run under the plans of the republican party because they literally could care less about veterans.

1st of all IIRC it was Regan that elevated the VA status with in the govt. to have its own cabinet position appointment.

also IIRC it was under Slick Willy that we got the reforms that have given us the current even more poorly run and piss poorly managed system we have now......


I like the fact that if I need something fixed, or looked at I dont have to wait in lines for months just for a 1st opinion, let alone a 2ed opinion visit to a specialist.
