    Here is a Toy...

    For all of you photo-geeks.

Phi 1.68:1 or "Golden Mean" Image Composition Guide: http://www.dcolegrovephotography.com...ion-guide.html

It's kind of a clunky page and so far it works in IE 5, 6, 7 & 8 and Fire Fox ... Won't work in Google Chrome (still in testing... I'm working on it... fuck Google).

I like the tension you created with the bold offset crop... I give it a 8.5.

Yeah! Now works in IE 8 (even without compatability mode).

basically you want the subject(s) to fall along the lines, and if there is a horizon in your photo, line it up with one of the horizontal lines.

                        Well...

In photography there are "Rules" of composition, the most common is the "Rule of Thirds" the subject is placed on lines that are "drawn at about @33.3% of the frame

This is a composition rule based on something else "Phi" (the Greek symbol for the ratio of 1.68:1) or better known as the Golden Mean.
The mean, triangles and spiral are all based on this ratio of 1.68:1.

The article attached to this "online tool" kind of explains it (emphasis on the kind of).

Do you really need someone to draw a line to show you where 33% over and down are? lol

Daniel the large tree on the right side is VERY tight to the edge, somewhat distracting. In general, try to avoid any major pieces of interest too close to the edges of your shot.

Although, I DO have a shot that I did the same thing, in the same place...and people like it. I have decided it works since it has such simple lines on the pole and only touches the edge in one point, it isn't as distracting...

Eric, the diagonal lines are good and lead you into the subject. Compositionally the image is good...I'd clone out the switch on the wall behind the wheel though.
