Speaking of shooting spiders, I just shot a Crab Spider the size of a fucking half-dollar out of the eaves outside my front door with my airsoft gun.

Missed him the first time, the second shot hit him dead-on. One second he was there, then he was fucking toast.

Photographing insects is interesting, albeit tedious and time consuming.

I just looked up reverse rings and found this...worth a shot if you have the extra stuff laying around.

I just need to get my hands on a cheap filter and that could be fun.

Daniel, did you use (harsh) pop up flash?

you might as well buy a nikon reversing ring. they aren't that expensive, and are much more secure than gluing anything to anything.

i used a homemade flash diffuser made of of a half gallon milk carton and a 1 gallon milk jug. the flash has to extend beyond the end of the lens because you have to be so close to the object that the lens blocks any normal flash. i'm not sure if even an SB-600 would reach properly.

UV filters are cheap and I've never really noticed anything benefit from using them...

UV filters are useful for protecting one's lens and reducing lens flares.
