Ok, well you want to look into Inventor by Autodesk. It is one hell of a program.

Contact the school(s) you are looking to go to, and see what program they use. Also, student versions from autodesk usually run from $99-$120 for a timed usage. It's a good deal all things considered.

You can get it for free direct from autodesk as a student.

Then create a profile, you will have to use a student e-mail, and then verify it (I think a high school one will work, if not let me know). After you are all set up (I forget if it takes some time for them to verify or not), you can click on the "software download" link at the top. I think Inventor pro is somewhere near the bottom.
