DIIRTY-30, nice job on the black cars, they're tough at night!

Thank you sir, they're a PIA but I love the challenge. Anyhow back to your thread, that shot with the mustang golden hour is tits (Minus the mustang ofcourse lol). That shot has some killer tones.

Thanks! Along with the color I really like the depth of field we got, not shallow but the trees in the background gradually get more blurry as you go. Can't wait until this Tuesday, we're hitting it up again with the same 4 cars + 2 of my buddies STi's among others. Should be pretty awesome.

I noticed in your shot with black cars it's best to know your background (use lighter ones). If you use a dark background you'll probably have a bad time!

These are some incredibly sexy pictures...

If it hasn't been too long, do you remember what lens(es) you used?

                    It was a Nikon 50mm.

Thank you, dude! I've been attempting to get into photography over the past few weeks, and picked up a T3i along with a couple old lenses not too long ago.

These definitely sparked the interest even more!

No problem, the pics I took were definitely photoshopped to my liking. I'd say the type of photography that I'm into is "surrealistic" where it's almost "impossible" to look a certain way normally.

A quick Google search nailed it on the head of what I like, it's odd though I've never looked this up before: http://smashingtips.com/long-exposure-photography-shots

Don't forget about HDR's either, that can definitely be fun! Everyone has their own taste, get out there and start shooting! With new cameras you can't go wrong with starting out using auto settings. See what the camera "wants" to do for optimal light, then try "aperture priority" or "shutter priority". The camera will even tell you if a shot is going to come out under or over exposed. Once you learn about aperture (depth of field), shutter speed, ISO, and other main photography aspects you'll be good to go.

Thank you for the tips and examples! I think I've actually looked through those pictures before, and they're amazing!

As sad as this is, I've actually been just reading about photography over the past few months or so, but have only recently been able to afford a camera. The concepts and all make sense (for the most part), but I've just never gotten the opportunity to try things out for myself.

First thing I did after picking up my T3i was take this picture as a long-exposure test. I attempted to do a little bit of light painting, but it didn't really show up. Keep in mind that this was around midnight, and it was pitch black outside.

these are great shots! i will have to say that i was thinking you would have shot at a much slower shutter speed. a few seconds maybe. try this. set it for about 15 seconds then take a flashlight and point it at the car, and follow the lines of the car with the light. it will definitely make the car pop a lot more.
and in my opinion, you should have your f-stop a little higher bc zooming into some of those pictures you can see your focus point was round about the passenger headlight and everything else on the car and background is a tad blurry, which make it look more grainy that the photo actually is. the higher the f-stop the more you have in focus. one last thing, before i over do it.. haha look at your histogram on the camera and try to shoot it more towards the right bc the moreit is to the left the more information you lose.
I use a d7000 myself, so if you happen to have any questions about the camera or anything feel free to ask and ill do my best to help out.
