It's surprising how far the watermark will travel around. I used to watermark (bad photos) and I haven't watermarked my (still bad) photos in the last couple years. Ran into a local BMW guy that knows me from remembering my photos. I was shocked.

Honestly, I watermark SOME of my photos so people know who took the picture, but Im speaking in terms of a mark on the bottom left/right of a picture, not some fucked up text across the whole damn thing.

I only put it on the ones that I think are good. I consistently just post random photos I edit in which I dont care what people do with them. I hate it when people put them on every damn photo they have, in which none of them even know how to filter their pictures correctly. Its literally:

1.Take a shit load of pictures at an event
2.edit them all WITH THE SAME PRESET.
        3. Watermark
        4. dump all the pictures somewhere.

Prime example. CEREAL2K. Anyone heard of him? If you have, I feel bad for you. From the looks of it, he takes pictures with a crappy point and shoot camera and dumps all pictures he takes on FB. Everyone knows about him because he has so many damn pictures. Hes known for his quantity, not quality, which is lame in my opinion. Id rather have a few sick photos and a lot of shitty ones. He even claims to be a model photographer....
Im sorry, but lets think about that again.

This is post is obviously more of a rant.
I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.

I did/do watermark a lot of photos, but usually only actual finished photographs for clients. It's not so much about stolen pictures as it is about attracting new customers. I've had several people see photos I've taken of local cars and track me down by the watermark for shots of their own cars; there's no doubt it works, but it looks stupid when you tag absolutely everything you shit out. Has more of a negative effect at that point.

Depends on the circumstance. I don't give away raws or uncompressed tiffs, so if anyone wants a high res jpg, its going to come with a watermark like the above. Totally fine with the people that use them, quite often a web address or just a name so you can find them. Placement matters, most will usually put it somewhere that doesn't detract from the image.
Just a little project im working on

^ it took me a long time to find your watermark, so you're doing it right.

while an extreme example, this is the kind of watermarking that just kills me:

Perhaps because their are vendors out their grabbing people's photos and using them to market their knock off products.
Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

What about using a watermark to promote a recurring event? These two guys are in the band, Ocha La Rocha, see them in L.A.

I think some people are taking this discussion out of context. We're not saying this applies to every little thing. With that being said it should have been in the bottom right corner, less distracting, its taking away from the subject being there..

In this image the subject is supposed to be, L5F>Mrs. Munne>Beer>Max Cooper (sniffle)
