I woulda maced the lil fucker first so he couldn't talk while I'm tazing the shit
outta him. Cops DO racial profile and for good damned reasons. A tazer isn't
shit, he should thank god they didn't really screw him up, they had the queue
to step it up a notch and use force.

My dad is a cop up here and its little shit bags like this that make me wonder
if I'll get to see him again.

If it was me, I would have hit the kid with my nighstick.

I believe the whole issue started when the young lad visited an online forum – r3v I believe – and posted a question if an engine from an E36 model BMW can be swapped into an E30 body. Once the forum found out, all hell broke loose...

Instead they made the situation worse by trying to get a guy who flat out wont cooperate to cooperate...silly. The cops are supposed to make these situations less not instigate them to be worse than needed. Again, we still didn't get to see the begining of what happened.
first of all jackass, if a terrorist used a computer in a public university he could probably do so with relative anonymity and not have to worry much about being tracked down. two, you don't understand anything about police use of force or how it is implemented. It's a continuum like this:

          Verbal Commands
          Hands/Physical Compliance
          O.C.
          Taser
          ASP
          Firearm

Hands, O.C., and Taser can generally be interchanged wherever the officer feels comfortable i.e. the 130 lb female officer can go to O.C. or Taser if she doesn't want to go hands on with a 300 lb suspect. Generally you are authorized to go one level above the force being exerted. So if a suspect is verbally resisting, an officer can go to hands, o.c., or taser at their discretion to obtain compliance. If I were a police officer I wouldn't risk getting myself hurt just trying to physically control someone if i can help it. I'm going to use the tools at my disposal to ensure the situation is resolved quickly and with as little harm as possible to those involved. Your whole statement of "Instead they made the situation worse by trying to get a guy who flat out wont cooperate to cooperate...silly" is ridiculous. So it's silly to stop someone from doing something they want to do even though it is wrong/illegal/against the rules? You need to grow up and realize you don't know half as much asyou think you do.

And to clarify Rodney King had a history of resisting arrest/DUI etc. Not defending those officer's decision making, just FYI. He was no saint either.

They have an authority that is to be obeyed.
            He didn't.
            That's what happens.

No amount of "the law says this" or any other bull crap is going to stop the situation once it's happening. The officers were committed, their suspect was GOING to comply, otherwise they would be seen as impotent and afraid. Bad situation for both parties, but the guy should have complied.

Personally, I think they wasted too much energy talking to him. He sure moved when they tazed him. He sure had a lot of energy to yell about "justice" and "abuse of power". He could have used that energy to walk his dumb ass out of the library and prove his case.
Those other kids getting in the fray? (sigh) give me a break. Know-it-all college students.

Can't quite agree with this. The kid should have been up front and said I don't have the ID. He wanted to make a statement and he got his wish.
However saying "follow the rules, don't be an asshole" and "you can breeze through life" is scary. Fortunately 230 or so years ago a group of colonists didn't think that way and today we live in the best country on earth. In the 60's MLK didn't subscribe to that line of thinking and got things changed. Ditto for Ghandi.
Gotta pick you battles. The kid chose poorly.

Sorry to disagree, but if i had to face those cops, just seeng the size of the coloured one i would not have picked a fight with them, I did not watch the video that close, but if a kid disobeys 5 cops, I'd say, taze him once, or club him once, even punch him in the kidneys once, and just drag him out of there, what kind of coward feels threatened after the kid is handcuffed on the ground, criying, and goes on tazing him, are you serious when you say that the kid handcuffed on the ground, criying is a threat to the library's security ?

Unfortunately after the worst terrorist act in history, the US government has created not a "war on terror", but a "reign of terror" inside the US, and this is not critizism on how the policies are made or the motivation or reasons why governments act like they do, because I am a foreigner, but seeing things from the outside, and having lived in a country where terrorism worked for decades there is something that should not be done to the US citizens, you should not be kept "on edge" 24 hours a day by your government, because things like this will happen when everybody is jumpy and worried about national security all the time. Please count the number of terrorist atttacks on continental US for the last 2 years, I'm not sure, but it seems like those add up to 0.

I am an odd chilean, white, blue eyed, and I speak english without an accent, the police here are military police and nasty, so i always obey IMMEDIATELY, specially when i'm visiting another country since I feel thar guests are supposed to behave flawlessly as ambassadors of their respective countries, but I quote from the Universal declaration of human rights: You can read the whole document at:

                    Article 5.
                    • No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

I'd also like to say that thousands of US marines (including a couple of friends) have died defending these rights all around the world, and there's no reason why they shouldn't apply in The US:

Found that video quite entertaining... but I'm gonna have to say that those cops are gonna get owned... I mean, come on, what twisted kid would want to not get kicked out of a library. These were UCLA students, how the hell do you get off tazing a kid trying to research in a library. Absolutely uncalled for.

Did you actually bother to read this thread? UCLA has a policy of kicking any non-students out of the library after 11pm. They verify this by asking the students to show their ID. This kid didn't have an ID, and then became confrontational with the cops.

18-24 year old Middle eastern male in a public location after an imposed curfew. When asked to produce identification to verify whether or not he should be there, he becomes combative and disruptive, and begins trying to encourage other students to "join in" against the cops.

I would have tazed his ass. Hell, I would have probably gone Rodney King on him.

Exactly, people need to see the bigger picture. We also don't know if the cops were being assholes...as we all know they can be at times. Is that an excuse for the kid to fight back...no.
If the kid was already cuffed and he refused to walk out, you don't just go torturing the kid because he doesn't want to listen to you. Some cops get away with murder literally. Although many people think cops should be given some leeway because they put their lives on the line. Cops have to make split dicissions but this was not one of them. There was a better way to handle this.
