    Getting 1st DSLR

What is a good starting camera to get? I've been looking online but the problem is I'm not sure what specs I should be looking for. I'm getting it for my GF and shes only had point and shoot camera's before.
    I've been looking at the

    d80
    Canon digital rebel EOS

What are some good starting camera's guys?

or something a little better, you should try the rebel xsi.

would highly recommend it. But it can be a bit pricey

I've got the xsi and i love it. pretty intuitive, so it's easy to learn. also has a lot of "basic" modes that don't really require much input.

read up on it, you'll fall in love. just like i did.

I hate sony, it's slow and loud.

xti and d60 are great straters. xsi is awesome too.

As far as for your girlfriend, Olympus makes female oriented DSLRs.

I went to Ritz, and had all DSLRs side by side, played with all of them for a few hours and bought d60. Try that with your girlfriend.

amen to that. pick up each one and see what fits comfortably in your hands. xti is much cheaper than the xsi if you're on a limited budget. can't really speak much for nikon's since i only shoot canon...

i have the d80, i am very very happy. except with the noise at night. pretty low but not low enough for me. i mostly take photos of light at night so noise plays a big part. next camera will probably be the d200 even tho they further reduced this with the d90.

canons are nice but i feel like they are under exposed, havent really played with the xsi tho. the 40d is sick. also cannons lenses arent as nice =0

^what he said plus pls do not even consider Sony since Canon and Nikon has much more quality, reliable camaras to offer than Sony.

sony has bumped up there cameras. someone hasnt played with the a700 and up

not cost effective tho and dont agree with the focusing system

also ease of use is dependent on the person, you wont be able to pick up any of these cameras and make good pictures in manual mode. all will give you good in auto but thats lame. something like the d200 would probably be too much camera for a started but nikon and canon are similar just different placement
