I completely agree on user error, but...
I had many issues with my 40d, not only focusing, I was shooting a track event and ended up walking back to my car and switching back to my 20d cause the miss focusing was terrible. Threw the 20d in the same exact settings as I always use when shooting track stuff and didn't have a focusing issue for the rest of the weekend. Took my 40d back and exchanged it for a 5d in the end. 5d is amazazing!Leave a comment:

From my experience it is not the camera's fault. There have been SOME issues with focusing but having used a 40d myself I have seen how someone that didn't know what was going on would say it is not focusing correctly.
It goes off points of contrast...Leave a comment:

I was raised in a Nikon family so I swear by it, and I shoot with a D200 (dad's), and I LOVE it... I still have a lot to learn though.Leave a comment:

I'm sure they'll be worked out by then...another $1,200 lens will set purchasing the body back a while, ha!
Great photos on your website, i've been wanting to fabricate a rig to experiment more!Leave a comment:

Cool..
Make sure and wait till they get all the bugs worked out, 40d's are still having focusing problems.Leave a comment:

Nice shots! Do you have anymore shots from that weekend?Yep, a camera doesn't know what composition is. I couldn't imagine trekking days in the wilderness with all the equipment Ansel carried to set it up and take photos and not know how they will turn out until developed. We have it EASY with digital cameras.
Here's a few of my sample shots from Petit Le Mans a couple weeks ago using an XTI and a 300mm F4/.0L IS...

Honestly I'll probably just stick with a consumer body until I have the lenses I want then I'll think about a upgrade. The 50d is looking like a good thing to put on the list after the 24-70 f/2.8L...Leave a comment:
