I got super busy with work and had no time to get online but ive narrowed down to the Nikon D60 and Canon EOS XS. They are about the same price but now im not really sure which one to get.

Can any of you guys get me a deal on these cameras?

Compare the cost of lenses though...the Sony's Zeiss/Konica-Minolta lenses cost more than the equivalent Canon L series. Even if I got an a300, a700, etc. for free I would still have way more into my equipment with comparable lenses.

canons are nice but i feel like they are under exposed, havent really played with the xsi tho. the 40d is sick. also cannons lenses arent as nice =0
Noise is what full manual and a tripod is for, there is no reason you can't avoid 99.9% of the noise with any manually operated camera. If you're shooting bands and other low light situations where a faster shutter is required then sounds like you need to upgrade your lenses...

              2. WTF? It is Canon first off and knocking their lenses? roflmao

People are worrying too much about which body to choose I think in here. I shoot with a Canon XTi but my lens options and accessories cost WAYYYYY more than the body itself.

I am a firm believer in spending money on good glass and if need be skimp a bit on the body. You can take EXCEPTIONAL photos with a Rebel XT and a Canon 17-40 f/4L or Canon 70-200 f/4L. Followed in a close 2nd is the photography. Maybe they are tied. A good photographer can make up for poor equipment though, to a point.

Glass is more important than the body. You can be in broad daylight, Canon 1d and shooting through crap glass and you will get crap results.

If you are shooting low light at night and it is not fast moving sports but landscapes, car photography etc you need a good tripod. Not a 30 dollar walmart special but a GOOD tripod. Then you can shoot at ISO100 and not worry about noise.

So let's start over. What do you want to shoot? What is your budget? How close or how far away are your subjects going to be? What time of day? Are they moving? Stationary?

Let me know and we get you setup with what is right for you/her.
What Halston said ^^^. Camera bodies are disposable, determine what you want to shoot and invest in the glass.

Go to a store and physically pick both of them up then get assistance on the basic features and buttons and I bet that will narrow your decision. Then check out the lenses and what accessories you need and compare prices and features and I'm sure you'll figure out on your own which one you like the most.

Yep, a camera doesn't know what composition is. I couldn't imagine trekking days in the wilderness with all the equipment Ansel carried to set it up and take photos and not know how they will turn out until developed. We have it EASY with digital cameras.

Here's a few of my sample shots from Petit Le Mans a couple weeks ago using an XTI and a 300mm F4/.0L IS...

Honestly I'll probably just stick with a consumer body until I have the lenses I want then I'll think about a upgrade. The 50d is looking like a good thing to put on the list after the 24-70 f/2.8L...

hit up some photography forums. you'll find that camera people sell used cameras and lenses just like car people sell cars and parts :p
