    Spec E30?

Soooooo, ummm yeah. I have an 86 eta that I just swapped a b25(with all the fixins), lsd 3.73 rear end into and I was about to get all the other goodies (suspension, exhaust, cage etc.) that go along with the rule set for that class, but I'm not sure its worth it now. Well, ummm I mean, do even stand ANY chance of getting this thing passed??? Or are the refs gonna look at me and laugh?

Have you been to the SPEC E30 page?
    http://spece30.com/component/option,...page/Itemid,1/

There is an entire section on rules plus a good forum to ask your SPEC E30 questions.

I've done a few years of SCCA, and some of the rules for spece30 make little sense. i.e. no body damage visible, or no tinting whatsoever allowed. seriously what is the point?

That is a legal combination for a Spec E30, so I don't think you'll have any trouble getting it through tech just because you didn't start with a 325i/is. Just follow the rules with respect to what can and can't be removed from the car, install a good cage, ballast as necessary to make weight, and go racing.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

You should be fine. What does
          b25(with all the fixins),
mean? Stock M20 is all that is allowed in Spec E30.

I would assume it's so that you can see hand signals.

I would think so. I want to remove the tint off my STREET car just for when I go do HPDE's.

Tinting is strongly discouraged on track because it impedes visibility - it's less signally than the fact that you need to be able to see through the other cars.

As for no visible body damage, last I checked, they apply the 50/50 rule. The car needs to look good from 50 feet away at 50MPH. Honestly, if it can't meet that test, it shouldn't be on track.

Seeing through cars makes sense, and I can live with the 50/50 rule, just how it was worded in the rulebook.

What makes less sense are the overly restrictive roll cage rules that most organizations are using. IMHO, cages should be free as they are a low cost way to improve chassis longevity and maximize safety.

"With all the fixins" means that I made sure to use all the m20b25 parts and none of my eta parts, I.E. the headers/exhaust (for starters till I can get the race one), the ecu (173), the full harness, the oil cooler (my eta didn't have one), the flywheel, the clutch, new NGK plugs, and the starter all OEM and "new". Just changed the timing belt and water pump today to make sure all is well. Still need to source parts for an inexpensive, cap/rotor, wires, and ignition coil. Only thing I didn't do ( I think...) is change the motor mount/bushings when I had the motor out... Shit, I mean I totaly spaced on that one.

Mounts are easy anyway...I have never met any of the Spec guys, but I know a bunch of the Pro3 guys...they all are really cool, and as long as your attitude is one of friendly challenge and sportsmanship, I bet you are in.

racing rule books are wordy enough without trying to seem more friendly. They state what they need to state, nothing more. Don't take it personal.

Just do what GRM did and bang out the dent a bit and put a GRM sticker over the body damage!
