    24 Hours of LeMons In-Car E30 Footage...

I thought I'd make a thread to throw different clips in as I get them uploaded.

My office was broken into on Saturday morning while I was at the race track and my Apple desktop, Apple LCD monitor, DSL modem (???), etc., were all stolen. So, I'm working from a laptop until the insurance company tells me to go buy myself a new system. For that reason, please bear with me as it could take more than a week to get all the clips up.

For now, I started with the best one. My comments are in the comment bar next to the video.

Thanks to ChaseCam for helping us out with cameras for the race!

One of our team members set up his HERO cam on the side of the RV to time-lapse record us swapping the motor early Saturday morning:

Nice. Everything seemed to be under control until shit happened. Were you able to resume or was it the end for your team?

Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

We had the car back on track in less than 2 hours. Replaced the front control arm and swaybar bracket, borrowed a flatbed tow truck and used that to bend the frame back (using a jackstand as the fulcrum point), and replaced the radiator.

This happened on Saturday afternoon. On Friday afternoon, we had blown the motor and spent Friday night/Saturday morning replacing the motor + transmission.

I checked the clip two or three times. It seemed the truck was stalled by itself. There's no car in front, blocking. What happened?

WTF? didnt even look like there was any reason for him to lock up the brakes. Glad you got it back on the road.

I wonder the same thing. Here is what one of their team members said on Jalopnik:

"We were unfortunately rear-ended by a very nice fellow (who later apologized and had us sign his fender for a breast cancer awareness cause) in a BMW 3-series who didn't notice our car slowing for a fire truck merging onto the track under yellow flag...this is the ONLY reason I can come up with Mr Martin's unfortunate misconception about brake checking."

BTW I did some frame-by-frame close-up on the "truck". Damn, either it doesn't even have a rollcage, or at least it is missing both crossbracings (main hoop and rear bars). Unless rollover protection is not required...

Black Iron Racing, winners of the Altamont '07 race, went with their standard LeMons formula for Buttonwillow: BMW 5 Series minus all the bodywork equals win! Unfortunately for them, they didn't modify their driving technique.
