    Autocross Rim/Tire combo

Just curious to see what type of rim/tire combo you guys run and in what class you run your car.

        GotCone? speaks truth.

However, if you're talking about SCCA street tire class for an E30 with a near-stock engine, a solid and cost-effective combo is the 15X8 direct-fit wheel from tirerack.com with any of several ST class tires in 225-45-15. Roughly $1000 for tires & wheels mounted, balanced, and shipped to your door. One choice of many. Some of us run 195-60-14 on bottlecaps or weaves for much lower cost but with the "pizza cutter" cosmetic penalty and less grip.

stock weaves with some hoosier A6s is actually quite effective, not to mention light weight. I totally miss mine. :(

I'm probably not the type of guy you want to hear from, as I've never been to the track before, but I'm purchasing my first set of rims/tires ever and I'm planning to hit up as many autox events as I can to get better fast. I'm going with 15x8et20 TRM C1's with Yokohama AVS ES100 225/50/15.

What's wrong with them? They have tons of good reviews. Or are you taking about the size? I'm interested to know... I havn't bought them yet so any constructive criticism helps.

They are just horrible tires. You get good tire reviews from any gearshift biscuit who changed from horrible tires to less horrible tires, or worn tires to new tires, or from guys who just plain don't know what the hell they're talking about. That's the problem with tire reviews.

I'd go with the G Force Sport (a cheaper tire) over the ES100 any day, if you actually want an autocross-worthy tire you might check out the 225/45R15 Hankook RS3. Or you could step down to a 205 and go for a Z1 Star Spec, Kumho XS or RE-11. It's between those and the big R-comps (R888, RA1, NT01).

Bingo, all true statements. I can't believe they are still selling the ES100, more importantly I can't believe people are still buying them.

Hmm I see. Well the fact being I don't personally know anyone on Yokohama AVS ES100, I'll trust you guys on that and won't buy them. However I do know quite a few people personally who take their cars to the track on the Hankook Ventus RS3, so maybe I'll pick up a set of those in 225/45/15. They are a bit more expensive and the tread wear is considerably lower at 140... how long do you think these tires will last?
