The McMaster Carr site has part number 6436K25, same dimension as above but it's steel vs aluminum like the one shown above. I don't know what these things weigh, but at $10 each vs. $17 each, you'd save a bunch if you need to buy 8. I know I have no interest in spending $140 on little collars to keep my harnesses in place. It's hard enough to pay $80!
muffler clamps would probably work, but in the moment of impact and the body is contorting while the belts are stretching and doing their job, I wouldn't want anything with a sharp edge near the belt material.
I just used 4 small sections of sfi roll bar padding secured with 1 zip tie each.....much lighter than the metal counterparts displayed above, after all they are just guides and once harness is in use the holes in the seat headrest hold the belts in place....my2c

Well I think depending upon the type of impact, it would be possible for the belts to slide (side impact, for example). Weird things happen when you hit stuff at 100+mph...
But, your padding may be good enough. With the sticky backing material and a zip tie, I don't see it moving too easy. There shouldn't be that much force applied to it from the little bit of slack in the belt between the seat and cage in that scenario anyway.
