I'm there, But I'll be racing, not instructing, this time.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

          Agreed.

I understand everyone wants to get paid and it costs money to use the track etc., but holy hell. I'll just race SOLO II near my house and PRETEND I'm on a circuit for a fraction of that.

World class track without a bazillion people on it means it won't be cheap. But that price is cheaper than the ofest rates last year.

            Tentatively signed up to race...

The organizers set the price based on what the track charges. It is a fact of life that track charges have been going up every year, hence the higher HPDE (and race) fees.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Back in '05 I attended an LA chapter CCA HPDE at Willow Springs. $525 for two days with dinner (sandwiches) on Saturday night. No T-shirt.

NASA was offering their WS 2 day HPDEs for $250, with a BBQ dinner and beer garden. Needless to say, I didn't renew my CCA membership in '06 went over to NASA.

Come on! It's not that bad! It is well worth the cost. And you get gobs of track time.
