    NASA TT S50 e30

Ok Engine done, suspension done, brakes done,wheels/tires almost .....next is interior safety/ rollcage/seats/etc
thinking of running it in NASA TT. Is anyone running with an S50?? I have to summit my swap info to TT director. Not sure which TT class to run in. It comes down to weight of car. Im not sure what weight to run

    any thoughts?

S50, depending on weight is gonna be a TTC or TTB car to start most likely. M50s typically end up in D to start out.

Doesnt matter what motor anyone is running it'll have to be dyno'ed since it's a swap.

          1989 BMW 325is (1994 325i M50 motor)
          Max Dynojet # 195hp 175ft/lbs
          Comp weight = 2550
My car was 2350 w. 3/4 tank of gas no driver so it's basically stripped pretty far.

Greg put me in straight TTC, no points.

He also classed me in TTD** if I added 100lbs but there's no way I'm adding weight back.
So depending on your power/weight this may help you envision where you'll end up.

I have a cammed m50 engine in my street car and was considering running one in my track car as well. Do you like it a lot more then the m20? Do you feel you are competitive in TTC, is that a fair classing? I know it doesn't make good power until 5k or so, how do you like it on the track? I think since NASA uses peak HP numbers, it seems like it might be a better idea to swap in an s50, since the peak power is only 10whp or so more, but the low end torque is so much better. Or do they look at the area under the curve as well when classing?

When you go "swap" and get p/w classed you don't have to take points for any engine perf. or weight reduction AT THAT POINT.
If you add HP or remove weight after Greg classes you then you have to have him re-class you.

                  My "other" points are:
                  225/50-15 Toyo R888
                  E36 Trans
                  Bilstein Shocks
                  H&R Springs
                  Sway Bars
I'm running HT-10 pads on stock brakes. They're being worked. :)
I have a ton of other stuff done to the car as well but it's all free, no point stuff.

As for comparing the M20 motor I couldn't tell you. I bought it w. the M50 and w. the 260+4.10lsd it rips like a mother!
Actually picking up a 3.73lds tomorrow cause my top speed it only 110mph and that won't cut it on 2 of our 8 tracks in AZ. :D

My biggest complaint about the car (coming from Spec Miata/ S2000) is the lack of adjustability in the rear.
I softened my front sway this past weekend and it's not doing the trick. Seems like those weld-in RTABs are going to be a must.. along w. coil-overs!

The car dialed in like above would be competitive in AZ.
We've got some national level guys that are always going to be 1+sec faster but I would've had a 2nd at my first event if I had my classing done and I think I got 2nd or 3rd this past weekend the first day.. Waiting for results.
                  I run w. Civics/ Integras/ Camaro/ Z3/ M3/ Mini/ 350z 's a nice variety and our variety of tracks will keep it interesting as well!
