Hi Lf8. I suppose that you are interested in a harness bar to fit a set of 5-6 points harnesses. In that case, you will also need roll-over protection. At $400, you are not far from a new bolt-in roll bar. Or get a used one for under $400.

Why the need for a roll bar with a harness? Is it to do with seat collapsibility?

You can't bend at the waist in a full harness. Poses a problem when your roof collapses in a roll.

No. It has to do with being crushed in your seat while the roof caves in if you roll. If wearing a harness, you just can't move or bend over to avoid the crumpling roof. Also, if you intend to participate to a BMWCCA event, they make the rollbar mandatory with harnesses.

My racecar has a full cage. It is more involved than I initially wished for, but hey, I have only one life, and it is worth more than a few extra tubes.

I am also running a VSR bar, i feel it has by far the best fit of all the rollbars made for the e30, I got mine with the removable center piece as i have to carry all my dot-r's IN the car on my way to events so having the ability to use the back seat space was the most important thing for me. They are however a bit on the pricey side compared to the rest of the bars, but the quality is worth the price. Plus can you put a price on your life?
