For the rear portion of bar it does not sit flat on the rear wheel wells, to bend these appropriately to the wheel well as well as the backing plates, would it be recommended to heat them up prior to hitting with hammer or just wail away cold?

Install the rear bolts, tighten them down, with the exterior backing plates installed.
Use a mallet/hammer to bend the front section of the plate down to fit.
I would suggest using ear protection, it will be loud when you're banging on the plates inside the car.
Be sure to seal the exterior plates/bolts with brushable seam sealer once you're finished to prevent moisture from getting between the plates & the chassis.

We used a torch to just heat the metal up a bit then hammered it down with a hammer, worked out pretty good. Had to mod the backing plate a touch to allow for the new curve on the rollbar base plate. But came out looking pretty damn awesome IMO.1991 BMW 318is Track Car-NEEDS ITBS AND STANDALONE!!

Thats how I did mine, I also rounded the edges, heated and bent them to fit as close as possible, then tightened them up
I also seam sealed both sides and put a bit of grease on the bolts, holes and between the plates, used stainless hardware too
Just tightening them down and beating them in place sounds like scratched up paint,bent/ bare metal and rust. I quess if its a track/race car who cares,
Ive seen a few cars rusted out from rollbar installs
HunterWe're out there in here.
