The RS4 didn't feel at all as an understeering car. More like a rear wheel drive car, with extra help from the front wheels to pull you out of a corner. Just steer, and apply throttle toward the exit. The feel was phenomenal. I think the trend started with the first generation Audi TT. I could even let my novice student trailbrake at the entry and throttle his way out.

The car was very well balanced too. If I had some mullah, I would get a used RS4 in a snap.

We have a couple seriously mod'd audi A4/S4's that come out to autox. They definitely aren't set up as autox cars (ie, all engine, very little suspension). But as with any car, given the right driver who know's what he's doing, they can be pretty quick. What mods do you have done to your e30 and how long have you been autox'ing?Mark K

the rs4 is/was a different beast, i've driven one and it handled very well indeed. yeah it was heavy but no more so than the e92 m3 i don't think. check out the topgear episode where clarkson drives one.

The first vid has a e30 in-car. Both vids have fast audi's. http://www.streetfire.net/video/swed...008_171247.htm

I wouldn't say i'm a highly experienced driver, nor, do i fully or completely understand the characteristics of my cars, seeing as i just got it, last june and haven't driven it too hard, yet. But i like to think i have an advantage over many non-road racers, in that i fully understand the concept behind traction management; balancing traction between braking and turning, and turning and accelerating (is there a name for that concept?). I also understand proper apexing, and overall driving line, in addition, i also have no problem with heal toe braking...
Not that this is justifying, but i was ranked top 1000 in forza 2 S class (i think i still might be), and i like to believe that there is experience to be gained from, in terms of understanding driving dynamics.... I'm guessing this is more experience than he has...Last edited by call me jack; 11-29-2010, 03:02 PM.

My daily is a B5 S4. They are not great AutoX cars. As everyone has said, too prone to understeer. They're much better Track Day cars, where long straights and a variety of corners make them much more competitive. Consecutive tight corners will kill a B5.
B5s are the lightest of the Audis since 2000, so theoretically they should be the best in most racing situations. There are aftermarket center diffs that change the front/real bias of power, and there is unlimited aftermarket suspension mods...With the right amount of money, you can build a B5 S4 that will kill many cars on any track...but that's far from the majority of the cases out there.
As others have said, watch out if he's upgraded the car to K04s or bigger (TIALs are the big thing now) because 400+whp is made with ease.
That said, if he's running a tiptronic, he's screwed. Even if he has chipped the car you'll smoke him with a decent E30.

But back on on topic, the tiptronic trans in the B5's are just, well, shitty. They are prone to breaking ($4700 for a rebuild, ask me how I know) and are VERY sluggish off the line, so the e30 should have the advantage there. First gear will take him to 40ish MPH so depending on the size of the autoX probably won't need to shift ever. Definately not an AutoX car, but still do remarkably well. Best of luck, make us proud!Last edited by Hey_You; 11-29-2010, 06:40 PM.

Bottom line I doubt this other kid knows squat about his car, let alone has any real driving skills or experience. A stock B5 S4 is light for a new audi but it is still understeery. You shouldn't have much of a problem, just remember to be smooth. He will either probably be babying his car or be plowing through every corner.paint sucks
