AutoXing and Track related safty questions

Tomorrow I have to give a report on “automobile safety” in health class. It’s the topic I picked since I thought it would be the easiest to do. Anyways I am looking for information about Auto Crossing and the Track. It doesn’t all have to be about safety, any information will do. I’ve never been to an autoX event yet before so any information would be nice. I’ll make a list of things I would like to know (some I already have a feel for but something more in depth would be great), feel free to add anything you want!

    AutoXing
    1. How long does the season last?

    2. Were does these events take place ( If your local to western Pennsylvania or anywhere close, some locations would be nice)

    3. What is the average age of the people intending. What do you notice about the younger drivers, do you feel like they are learning a lot about there car and driving?

    4. What safety precautions are taken during the event?

    5. Are there any regulations for registering a car into the event?

    6. anything else?

    Track

    1. Average cost?

    2. Safty precautions?

    3. Which is better (in your opinion) autoXing or the track?

    4. anything else?

    Driving lessions.

    1. Now are these only held at the track or do they have them at autoXing?

    2. How much do they cost ?

    3. what do you learn and what are the advantages?
    4. anything else?

Just a couple little responses from a couple people is all I need.
    Thanks in advance!

Search the world's information, including webpages, images, videos and more. Google has many special features to help you find exactly what you're looking for.

Do you even have your drivers licence yet?

EDIT: Nevermind, you have your permit, rofl.

    RISING EDGE

Let's drive fast and have fun.

        Auto-x:
1)season lasts over about 7-8 months of the year
        2)large parking lots, abandoned airfields
3)most i've seen turnout, or record, was 130+ drivers... but usually it seems like 90 or so are in attendence.
4)car has to pass tech inspection to make sure all wheels are on properly, battery is tied down, and drivers seat is properly anchored amongst other small stuff
5)that is passes tech - but then different cars are put into classes for the event
        6) I'm stoooopid and didn't read the numbers right - for #3, the drivers that attend are of all ages. I bet the average age is somewhere between 25-30 with all drivers combined. I learned a lot about my cardoin it, and i think everyone else does too, its just a question of whether or not someone actually realizes they know something and doesn't just go back to driving like an idiot.

misc. - auto-x is a cheap and safe way to get started in motorsports. It isn't that hard on your car, your chances of wrecking your car are small, and you learn car control. auto-x isn't about going fast in your car, its about learning how to control your car. HP doesn't make much difference - it comes down to the DRIVERS speed, and their control.

        Track)
        1) 100$ plus for the track time - but the repair costs that will be incurred by tracking your car make it much more expensive
2)helmet is a must (forgot to add that to auto-x too), and some sort of a harness is recommended but not a necessity
3)You learn a lot about apexing, how to properly get setup for a corner, how to keep the car as settled as possible - you learn how to drive a line, and how to correct if/when you make mistakes.
        4) you learn a lot about car control and dealing with a car at high speeds. It also makes daily driving seem very easy and slow - and this allows you to be a better driver and react to situations that other drives may not be able to. You can't go outyour first time and think you're going to turn in serious lap times - you have to go out there with the mindset that you are going to learn something about yourself, driving, and the cars setup and worry later on about lapping faster. If you go to a track day you will have an instructor with you, and that is effectively like getting a lesson.

Thanks uofom, that info was realllly helpful!

I just got an idea to use the REV'ed cars as examples of what not to do. Like randomtask with his bald tires (mind if I print up some pictures of your leg to pass around haha?)

Any other info would be great if you can think of anything. I think I can get a good start now

depending on where your local chapter is located joining the BMWCCA is a nice way to get some track time and instruction on auto-xing.
