My suspension is pretty simple...Vogtland springs (I think they are the proggressive type, I don't think they are the stiff ones) & Billy sports, with I believe ST sway bars front & rear. Most of it was on the car before I got it, it's a decent street set up with a pretty good ride, but definitely not the hot autocross set-up. I may put in a set of Konis & H&R race springs to keep it in class A for the time being, but if I decide to develope the car for SCCA STX next season then I'll probably go with a TC Kline coil-over set-up with double-adjustable Konis, camber plates, etc. with very stiff custom spring rates.
In the SCCA street touring category, the gear ratios must be stock original. In STX you are allowed any limited slip though, just as long as the ratio is original. So in the case of the 5-speed 87-91 325i/is you can run any limited slip in a stock case with a 3.73 ratio. I have a stock S3.73 diff ready to bolt in from an 89 325is, just haven't found time to do it yet.Originally posted by JeanRun a different diff or is that against STX rules? (sorry I am in SM)
So, the only legal way in STX to raise the max MPH in 2nd gear in an E30 is by tire size and/or a raised rev limit.Mark Scroggs

This was hard to read, so you mean the diff ratio has to be the same as it came on the car OR can it be changed to another STOCK ratio from another E30? Or are you saying ratio has to stay the same but the lock % can be changed? My suspension is pretty simple...Vogtland springs (I think they are the proggressive type, I don't think they are the stiff ones) & Billy sports, with I believe ST sway bars front & rear. Not sure in St but in Sp where I run it can be any of the stock diffs as i can update backdate parts on my car
I think in St to update backdate you have to do all of the options form the update or backdate car not just one componentComment

Hoosier is available in 245/50/15 But really I want to find some 15x8.5 or 9 and run 255/40/17 as the rs3 are cheap in that size.Comment

In street touring, the diff ratio must be stock/original, but any limited slip may be used. This allows you to upgrade to an aftermarket limited slip unit or build the factory limited slip unit to have more or less lockup.
No, you can't use any E30 ratio, only the one that came stock on that particular model/package. So, in the case of my car, I have to run a 3.73 ratio diff since that is what came stock on all 89 325i 2D models with a 5-speed transmission. If say I wanted to use the 4.10 diff from the automatic E30s, it wouldn't be legal unless I converted the car to an automatic ;-)
I know it sounds confusing, but it is written this way to prevent mixing & matching of parts from different models to create frankenstien cars that cost a lot to build & develop.
In street prepared, you are able to mix & match, they call it "update-backdate". Street touring had this rule originally, but they changed it because a couple people built 88 Civic DX hatchbacks with 89 Si drivetrains that were so much faster than the regular Civic Si's that it would have forced EVERYONE to build the same car to be competitive.Mark Scroggs
