      Hello everyone, my apologies for the absence. Yes, unfortunately I had to let my beloved E30 go earlier this year due to some personal financial reasons. I did not sell the car because I felt it couldn't be competitive, I would loved to have been able to continue developing it for STX as I still feel the E30 CAN be very competitive in that class. Don't give up on trying, I haven't...even though I am currently back in a Miata for autocrossing (sorry, I had to press the "easy" button), I do hope to get another 2-door E30 to play with at some point.

      I read this too, very good news indeed...I'm really wishing I didn't sell the 91 318i 4D slicktop I had a few years ago :(

      Anyway, best of luck to those of you willing to go against the grain & try something different, remember the E30 can be light & narrow compared to the other STX cars, two things that work VERY well for Miatas & Civics!

          STX is tough, especially down here in AL as Gary has mentioned. I'm in my Novice year and doing quite well there, but am always behind the regular STX guys. I got within 1 sec a couple of events ago (on a upper 30 sec course) but the last few I've always been 1.5 sec or so off the winner of STX.

          Of course that doesn't count the guys that run "pro" STX locally in an RX-8 just to give the regular STX guys a chance. I'm regularly 2 to 3 seconds off "pro" pace on a 30 to 40 sec course.

            Sorry to hear that Mark, hopefully you can get back into one soon. It will be a little ways down the road, but I am definitely planning to try my luck in STX eventually. Right now I am having quite a bit of fun in G-stock though lol.

              Here in DFW STX is pretty tough in the SCCA events, but in some of the other clubs the competition just isn't there. Either way its a super fun class for me :)

                I'm considering DSP - mainly for the potential rear gearing change - although I have little hopes of being competitive against a National-level prepped E36 DSP trailer-queen car that recently moved into my region.

                    I thought a steering rack upgrade put you squarely in SM not SP? Same with making a 2.7i?

                        The E36 rack is not legal for DSP in a E30. The rules separates the E36 and E30 to a different line, therefore, you cannot mix E36 parts in a E30 and vice versa.

                        Engine swaps have to be complete swaps. You can swap in a M20, but you can't mix different engine parts together.

                              Yep - read the swap rules in Street Prepared - you can swap within a model line, but not accross model lines within the same brand.

                              Gary, unfortunately your car as you described it above is definitely in Street Mod. One of the guys in the Philly region when I started a few years ago had a similar car: E36 rack with a warmed up M20. He did well locally when he was running it (sold it a few years ago to buy and prep a Miata R for ES, then sold that for grad school), but the competition was fairly even. It would be interesting to see how he would do against the current top SM car - a heavily modified Evo MR co-driven by two of the region's best drivers.

                              As far as running the car in STX or DSP, I've been practicing my shuffle-steering technique.
