    What final drive

What would be the best gear for autocross for a 87 eta? (not super eta or 2.7i or anything like that)... It's a dedicated car so I don't care about driving around town just the track. It current has a 2.93 lol

Really depends on the type of courses you see. If your out at faster national level events, you may want a 3.73 or even 3.46 so that you don't top out in 2nd gear. But at the same time if you are only doing local, smaller events, you may want a 4.10 for better accel. Just be aware that with most racing bodies changing the final drive can change what class your in.

What organization do you run with? I am mainly familar with SCCA, but I believe changing final drive gives you points in BMWCCA as well. If you run SCCA events, what class?

And in all honesty, no most people would never have a clue. And if your only doing local events I highly doubt anybody would care. Easiest way for anybody to tell would be to check the tag, but in theory you could just swap that too.

Then to be honest I would just leave the car and get lots of seat time. The $200 or so you would spend on a diff is better spent on doing more events if your just starting out.

This. But eventually that 2.93 is going to have to go. Just don't rush it.

3.73 and chipped. A chip and the 2.93 is very fun also. Its a leave in 2nd, and concentrate on driving ratio. I never really got too much wheel spin with the open rear. I swapped to an LSD for RallyX traction.
