I judge how fast my lap is by how long I ride the rev limiter in certain spots on the course ;)

I feel like I'm stuck shifting between 2nd and 3rd a lot with the current setup, which costs a lot of time as 2nd is hard to find in my getrag box. I can't tell you how many times I've missed 1-2 because the engine/gearbox has shifted. I've got the silence motormounts and upgraded e28 trans mounts. 3-2 is better, but still notchy.
I think the key here is that I'm perhaps not as aggressive or willing to ride the rev limiter in second, hence the constant 2-3-2 action.
No matter, getting a zf 6 speed with 3.15 diff put in right now. :) Hopefully for super twisty courses I can just keep it in 2nd now.
I calculated my gearing for that and it is pretty much exactly in between my current getrag/4.10 setup and my e46 5-speed. With a nice 6th gear for the highway. Can't wait...

Garrick, When you were running the Tour events (or any big events) at Grissom, were you hitting 3rd a lot or no?
IMO, a 4.10 is too much gear for any "stock" M20B25/Getrag used in an autocross environment with a competitive tire size (including the 285/30-18 ). Yes, you can and should bump the limiter up a bit to provide a bit more speed at the top end of second, but you'll break rockers trying to accomidate the revs a 4.10 imposes at high speed (in second).
A 4.10 with 275/35-15s? That's crazy talk!Garrick

With the stock DME I was on the limiter for almost seconds on the longer courses, missed not having a spare chipped DME. Switching up/down a gear was almost a gamble too.
What's the tranny gearing on the m20? I know with m30 + m30 g260/6 even 3.73 would be way too short imho.Mtech1 v8 build thread - https://www.r3vlimited.com/board/sho...d.php?t=413205
