The things I can think of that haven't been mentionned are to run an extra 1/2 litre of oil (or baffle the oil pan/run an accusump) as there is some talk of m20's running into oil starvation problems when on R-comps. Also, some (my 89) have fuel feed problems on hard/sustained right handers when under a 1/2 tank. Either keep it full or IE has a solution. Special backplates and brake ducting are not a bad idea either. Torque your wheels to 85 ft/lbs every time before you go out. Do not use your handbrake for the remainder of the weekend. Have a plan for what you want to work on every time you go out.
One of the best books I've read on driving is called "A twist of the wrist" by Keith Code. It's about motorcycles but an aweful lot applies to cars as well.

No hood latch cable either? I thought I was the only one running around with a flat head popping my hood.
I seem to recall he had no lever due to his custom speaker enclosures. Obviously with as anal as he seems to be about most things on his car, you wouldn't think he'd go around with a broken hood latch cable/lever.
Back on topic - Jordan, is this a BMWCCA event you are planning ot attend or one with another group?
Jordan, I'm planning on getting back out to a DE after the first of the year. There are a couple of Porsche events at TWS coming up. I've run them in my M3 and they are very well handled, usually lots of the BMW guys there.
Only thing I can add is just relax and listen to the instructor. TWS is a tough course for a DE because it's so big, lots of corners to memorize. The biggest problem I have is remembering to acknoledge the corner workers. In the green group this is a big thing with the instructors and you will never move up unless you can do it consistently.
They will tell you not to ride with anyone else at least on the first day. Listen to this advice. I went out in a couple of cars and let the lead instructor drive mine and it messed me up for the day.
Let me know when you're going and I'll meet you there. They also just opened Motorsports Ranch Houston and should have some events there. Would be good to run on a newly paved track. If you want to run one there you can crash at my place.

On the track it will happen sooner as you will be carrying more speed through the corners and can potentially be a problem if the car is really on the limit as a sudden drop in power can upset the balance of the car. This being said, if you know where it's going to happen you can plan for it and adjust your line/speed accordingly. It's mostly just annoying to constantly have to fill up your tank as fuel mileage goes out the window when on the track.

I am not a good enough driver to really be concerned about the weight of the full gas tank. I filled up Saturday morning and then did it again on Sunday. Maybe after some expereince it will matter to me, but it does not for now. Fill up the tank and it should eliminate the problem.
LOfuckinL. Glad to hear your finally going to put that thing to work. Although, all the wax layers that have built up over the years will put you at a severe weight disadvantage.

The e 30 forums are a tight community and I feel like I know you......your reputation precedes you.....you are getting alot of love here.
Congrats on your decision........I bought my e 30 last year to track it full time and with much $$$$$ invested its been a blast. As a newbie to the track, you are getting great advice. Hopefully you will like your instructor as they can make a huge difference. if you dont get along it can suck..try to ask for another.
DO NOT GET HYPNOTIZED BY A CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. It is common and you end up making the same errors !......dont get the red mist.....meaning dont stick on some guys ass and race him.....WATCH YOUR MIRRORS. Stay away from trouble..you want to DRIVE YOUR CAR HOME!. YOU WILL LOVE IT.... and if you dont,well..... you are not a man( he he) It is an amazing time..have fun.
