    Newb Question About Rcomps

I've got a set of the Hancook autocross tires in the soft C71 compound that I use just for autocrossing. Normally I put them on at the site and put my street tires back on for the drive home. Coming up, I've got a local autocross about 20 miles from home.

Will I put much unnecessary wear (heat cycles?) on the soft tires if I just bolt them up at home to simplify things?

    Thanks

Id say you are ok. They do say DOT on the side?
They honestly wont get that hot just driving

They also say not for highway use.

And about the heat issue, keep in mind that less than 3% of heat generated in a tire comes from friction between the tire and the road, it mostly comes from the rubber molecules being squeezed together.

I have the exact same tires, and personally I wouldn't do it. You may be fine, but to me it's just that much less runs you'll get out of them. Plus you have to change them anyway, not a huge difference if it's at home or an event, unless you have a lift.

And I know I would get really annoyed really quickly listening to my car's underside getting sandblasted lol.

The puncture risk of rcomps is pretty high. If you drive gently, it doesn't put *that* much wear in the tires. But you have to be gentle.

I think most arm chair a/x 'ers and DE' ers over think this.

its prolly BEST to change them out, but I know many guys that drive to DE track events on R6's!!!.....heck I drive on my RA1 4 hrs to WGI each way. I always drive on them to LRP and back, 100 mi total. ....yes they kick up alot of shit, yes I guess you are wearing them a BIT, yes they suck in heavy rain.......BUT YOULL B FINE IF EVERY NOW AND THEN YOU DRIVE TO AND FRO ON YOUR TIRES..NO BIGGIE AT ALL...sorry for the caps
I love sitting down and just driving!

                Question for Lof8:

Do you have a VSR roll bar? I'm making a 3+ hour drive to thunderhill raceway and wanted to bring my set of RS3s and just mount them once I get there. Will it fit through any of the roll bar openings? I haven't actually tried it yet (read: lazy). I've got the bolt in center section so I should be good if it doesn't.

I'm guessing you do the 2 in the trunk and 2 inside the cabin routine? I've got the OE reclinable seat passenger side and fixed back driver side.

Your car looks great in the sig. What's your suspension setup?

Hey there. Yes my rollbar is a VSR bolt-in. My center section is welded in place. One of my disappointments with the bar is that I could no longer put wheels/tires in the backseat. It may be possible if you have a reclining passenger seat . I had to buy/build a harbor freight trailer to carry my second set of wheels.

For a while I did 3 in the trunk and 1 strapped in the passenger seat, but that got old.

I use RS3's for street use and for HPDEs due to their lower price and higher wear (than the super soft R-comps). I wouldn't think twice about driving on them to any event.

Currently I'm using Bilstein shocks and Ireland Engineering springs with 1 coil cut out in the front. I've been running them for years with nothing but success. I will eventually go to a Ground Control/Koni setup but my current setup has been working so well its hard to justify the cost.

The reason I asked the question in the first place is its a fairly casual event, not SCCA or the like. Its close to home and I don't want to be "that guy" who's trailering his wheels and taking shit too seriously. I do want to be fast, though and stick well. I think I'm just going to drive there on 'em.

like you I run an s50...

there is nothing better than arriving w/ my often dirty and hazy red old sled...and outrunning some big buck cars w/ trailers/hoosiers/etc..

drive there on them....enjoy not having to switch out tires...!!!!!!

FYI..I do bring a 5th spare track wheel/tire mounted up and ready to go.

                          This is sound advice.

I'll give it a try in a couple weeks when I get my car ready. Is it me or did the price of RS3s in 225/45/15 jump up $10-$15?

I can easily fit in the 225/45/15s through the upper left opening, just have to remove the camera mount on the diagonal. I can fit all four too! :)
