For normal driving if you just payed attention it was fairly easy to get the job done. The longer you drove that way, the easier it got. The weirdest thing for me was hanging a fast left turn. I wasn't used to being on that side of the car and it almost felt like i was going to tip over or something. That was worse the than shifting for me.
We rented a Ford Mondeo (Contour) and one of our friends over there had the same car with sport springs and shocks. We got into some spirited driving while going across town and I would actually reach under my left arm and shift with my right hand during the cross-gate shifts (2-3,4-5, 5-4, 3-2). I could still shift faster and more accurately reaching under and when someone is mounted 1 foot off your rear bumper, you definitely don't want to miss a shift. Funny thing is that I was in front in a stock rental car and on roads I didn't know as well as him. I beat him to where we were going and all his friends still talk about it and razz him for getting beat by an American.-Patrick
