    Pad deposit question

I have the rx7 kit on my car that I track about 4-5 times a year+ a few autoxs mixed in there. The hawk hp+ pads are more than enough for my skill level currently, but they are so noisey on the street. I am thinking bout keeping the hawks for racing and getting something like stop tech ceramics for street use.

Now my question is: will there be by negative side effects when it comes to braking performance from switching back and forth from two different pad compounds on the same rotor?

Just swap rotors with the pads. I forgot what the rx7 kit typically uses (corrodo rotors or something?) but a set of stock rotors was like $100 last time I checked.

Funny you mention tracking with HP+. I've found I was able to overheat them on the street (stock brakes) just by braking from high speeds. They were amazing in the twisties and great at autox but they are not really track pads. I also noticed that if I used them gingerly it would scrub off the pad deposition and actually get a lot quieter (and have a lot less bite as well).

If I were you I'd get some ho-hum everyday pads (OEM E30 are pretty decent, idk about OEM FD pads) and run HT10s on the track.

I actually don't have many problems in my m42 car with overheating the hp+ even when I had them on stock brakes. At my last track event my pads were not my limiting factor at all while braking. My rs3s that are now basically slicks were.

As for swapping rotors and pads, I asked about just swapping the pads because it is so easy with the rx7 calipers. While swapping rotors requires caliper removal. I know I'm being kinda lazy/cheap about it but I'm just seeing if I could get away with just swapping pads

Brake pads need to have their compound properly bedded to the rotor for best performance and wear characteristics.

Also, after some use, the rotor will start to take a certain shape that matches the pads that are on there. Put different pads with a different surface profile, and both pad/rotor needs to wear down a bit before 100% contact area is achieved - until then the peaks on rotor and pad will ride against each other, leaving the valleys with nothing to do.

          Hey Nick,

I'm using the same rotors for both street pads and track pads. I just try to drive on the pad for a week or so before a track event. I know it's not the best solution, but its working out for me.

On a side note - how is your car doing? I remember that weekend didn't go as planned for you. How's do you like that jaffster knob?

I did that for a couple of years with no problems-

Textar street pads, Hawk Blues for the track.
