    blending fuels

have aquired some several thousand liters of Aviation fuel. it is 2 years old
was thinking of blending it with some fresh 94 octane.
has anybody blended differant octane fuels before? what are your thoughts?

    Aviation fuel, or jet fuel?
Aviation fuel is dyed, and leaded.
Jet fuel is pretty much diesel.

Sooo... Pretty much no... Don't try.

In the US, if it's blue, it's probably LowLead 100. Overkill for a street car, but does no
      harm at all.

If it's jetA, Jake's right- use it in your space heater.

You will not succeed in getting the dye out- it's very persistent.
The inside of the jugs I use for race fuel are still blue- and I haven't run
the stuff for a season, now.

And blending it with EthoCrud from the pump... well, why bother?

Read the last issue of Grassroots Motorsports; there's a great article about different fuel grades. You ain't gaining that much by running 100+ octane, UNLESS you have higher than average compression.

Higher octane can result in less power if your car isn't mapped for it. You get the most power from the lowest octane that doesn't cause ping.

I know race gas doesn't keep that long, so I suspect whatever this is doesn't either. Hell, would you put 2 y/o 89 in your car?

I wouldn't even put 1 y/o fuel in my lawnmower; made that mistake already, and had to rebuild the carb, and flush the tank/lines. Old fuel is only good for burning old Jack O lanterns. (mmmm... Fire)

The nice thing I found about LowLead100 was that it was much more stable than
the stuff that comes out of the auto pumps, and more consistent, too.

I used to use the remains of the last race's fuel in the lawn tractor,
but then came to realize that it stored for the winter just fine. And would then use it
for next season with no problems whatsoever.

It stores slightly better due to lack of Ethanol and other additives added to earth bound vehicles. Car engine stalls you apply blinker and pull over. Airplane engine failure equals a miserable day most of the time and if you survive you go pee in the bottle followed by a FAA interrogation.

what sort of rating does alcohol have?

what would it do to the gas if you mixed it with say.... methyl hydrate?

I know a little works to thaw the frozen lines in winter, but what about a MUCH larger mix?
