R-S3's are fine in the rain. I ran them on the track in eastern Canada in cold conditions and they were fine. Not as good as full-tread Toyo RA-1's, but not bad at all.
For an all around summer tire (wet or dry; street or track) the R-S3 is tough to beat.

Dunlop Z2. Don't bother with any of the others. RS3s are scary in the wet, Rivals aren't projected to be all that great in wet condtions (and you can't get them anyway).
Dunlops are fantastic all around performance tires. You give up a little bit of dry traction (vs rival/rs3) but gain a ton of wet performance.Leave a comment:

Rivals are most likely NOT going to be that great in the wet. ZIIs on the other hand are pretty damn good both in the wet and over temperature. That said it's a bit iffy if you are going to be tracking these tires in seriously cold temperatures. 50F is probably okay, but much below that and it may be a bit hairy.Leave a comment:

Tire suggestion for wet track days
I'm hopefully buying tires next week and need advice on the newest crop of track ready street rubber.
There is a large chance that I'll be doing a couple cold, wet track days up here. I don't want to have to dial my driving way down if the rain starts. I've done a few lapping days and a bunch of auto-x. I don't see me doing any auto-x, and if I do, I'm willing to give up some time if my tires are going to be better on the real track.
I'm running 17x8/17x9 staggered M-System wheels, Bilstein/H&R race and a stock M50tu. Looking for a 225/45R17. BFG rivals aren't available here yet, tried to order a set from work and parts guy couldn't find any suppliers that had even heard of them. I'm thinking the RS-3s, but would like to hear from someone with some experience what works well in the wet and cold conditions. Temps will range from 10-30 degrees Celsius when I'm on the track throughout the season. (50-85F)Tags: None
