My little brother beat me by a .5 second.

My favorite thing about auto-x was whooping my big brother, it's the only thing that kept me coming back (not saying I am awesome at it by any means). Basically, I am saying you should establish someone as your (friendly) rival and measure your progress against theirs to some degree. Another biggie, don't be afraid to kill cones, some corners can be faster if you do (rarely), and take pride in relocating a cone in it's box without knocking it out/over. Have fun, make new friends who turn out to be valuable resources later when they really start building up their specialized tool inventories.

Also, don't worry about being competitive in SCCA with an E30 as a novice, build the car as you please.
