Rallycrossing on golf balls is like autocross on cobblestones

Figured you guys might get a kick out of this. Usually our events are at Summit Point motorsports park, with large high-speed courses (60-70mph) that aren't super-technical.

This was a non-points "tuning" (but timed) event that we held between regular events on an old driving range. Unlike Summit, which is more like a stage rally course, this one was just a big flat field set up like a medium-sized autocross course. So, pretty technical and tight.

Oh....and it had a few thousand golf balls on it. Almost all of them were buried under grass when the day began, but as we wore the course in they started popping out and every once in a while you'd see one kick out behind the car or feel it bang into the bottom. Also they're very slippery. So you'd have traction in dirt, and then suddenly the car would slip over as you ran over a dozen embedded golf balls.

And you didn't yell four even once!

    Golf balls, how truly odd.

Wow, and all this time I've been looking for my ball in the rough, or the pond. I've just been hitting it so hard it's going underground!

Mount a fish net at the back and start trawling while your race. Most golf balls trawled wins. :-)

Trust me, while working the course I collected any "non-range" balls I found. Apparently Callaways are/were pretty popular at this particular range for some reason.
