    Lola Goes Autocrossing

Yesterday (8/11/2013) I took Lola to the TRSCCA AutoX event at Music City Raceway. It was an absolute riot and Lola kicked ass.

Run #5 saw me post the second fastest novice raw time of the day out of 24 entries; a 51.305. The only car that beat me was this FP-class beast. He had the 5th fastest time overall out of 58 total cars; a 48.859. Novice indeed...

Looking at the lap times, I could have easily taken home a trophy, but a fuel delivery issue on hard right hand turns cost me somewhere between 3 and 5 seconds per run during my first four. Zach (Sideways87) was kind enough to take Lola and go fill her up for me while I was working the course between driving sessions, and my lap times plummeted even with the added fuel weight. For run #6 I pulled a 51.596, which was only ~0.30 slower than my quickest, with a full tank AND him in the car. My 7th and final run (solo) was a 51.326.

    Here's my fast lap (#5):

Here's run #6, shot from outside the car at the top of the windshield:

And some shots of Lola getting it done:

I don't speak Subaru, but as long as that translates to "damned fast" then yes.

Yeah, they said the drivetrain swap puts me there. Apparently the only class jump from there is tires (?).

Nice! I have also suffered from fuel issue before and just keep the tank with more fuel.

In SM you pretty much need to be on Dot R tires to be at the top.

Nice! I cannot wait until I can take my car autocrossing. End links and tires....

Looks like you had a good time!

I once finished backwards at Music city raceway. There's a video somewhere...

Watched the video. You could probably be a bit faster by focusing less on shifting and more on your line and being smooth. Every time you downshift to first to come out of one of those hairpins you unsettle the car, it can't put the power down out of the corner and then you waste more time nudging the rev limiter and shifting. Sliding slows you down, focus on carrying more speed smoothly through those hairpins.

Edit: watched mo' video, #7 seemed much better in those sections.

I was so excited to know I was going to get through run #5 without the car bogging down, I was admittedly over-aggressive. Thanks for the pointers!
