- we built tons of cars/mc's growing up & he always wanted a wrenching job.
- got a job washing bikes at 18 (he graduated a year early) @ Fremont Cyclery which quickly turned into 'parts guy'
- worked there for less than a year & got his high school dream job, doing wheels & tires for a local "race shop" Roger Krauss Racing.
- got super good at wheels & tires & Good Year started inviting him to specialty events.
- about 2 years into that job he was mounting balancing etc for customers racing historic cars through Symbolic Motor Car Co in San Diego. They were looking for a wheel/tire guy in their race/restoration dept. he move to SoCal & worked on some ridiculous cars!!! I reaped a lot of benefits there.
- there were quite a few X-pro race team guys there (in their 50s/60s) that really encouraged him to get a pro job. He worked there until he was about 24 & got a pro job in Wisconsin.
- he hated the weather there & moved to NC where there are way more teams. He got on w/ Brumos & won the Daytona 24hr race.
- His girl got preggers so they moved back to SoCal & he got a job w/ Global Motor Sports (I'm sure some of the OC guys know them/Fab, He's got a super clean e30 alpine alpina)
- Got sick of SoCal, Dodge was building an ALMS team out of Carolina, so he moved back out there & got the car chief job.
I'll photo bomb the shit outta this thread if you guys want.
- he's been in it about 11 years & he's made a lot of money & been super broke. Feast or famine.
It's such hard work! He slipped a disc in his lower back at the beginning of the season and after the race this weekend is having it shaved down so that it is no longer resting on his nerve
That's really awesome! It's a dream of mine to move from our vintage stuff into a pro role of some sort. Being an ultra-dreamer though, I'd want it to be a driving job! ;D
That's a cool story too, interesting how he's moved all over the country.
Kind of a ghey old video that was a promo vid from 7ish years ago but there are some cool cars at the very beginning. I am not 100% sure but the silver car at 25 sec in is the oldest Lamborghini ever sold. I know they worked on it and I am pretty sure that is it. The very first one built is in a museum I believe in Italy and has never been driven (I think it is chassis number 001). 002 a test driver crashed and the car was destroyed and the driver was killed. They did a ground up resto on 003. (that was the story I was told) and sat in the car and looked at the numbers
