kinda unrelated, but the R compounds i have used dont seem as unforgiving as i was expecting. When they let go, was not a big of a deal and i was preparing for...same size as my street tyres, 205/55R15 on basketweaves. admittedly i was using tarmac rally R's, not full slicks.

Some of the guys have used bottlecaps for their RA-1's for the spec e30 racing. The hoosiers are a bit wider though and I have to run a small spacer to be able to use them on the front without rubbing the strut. You won't come near the fender liner because of how much smaller diameter the tire is compared to stock. Stu, have you looked into getting camber plates, they will help a lot with grip and tire life. Treat race tires like a new track, take your time getting used to them but it is amazing how much more grip they have.

JoshH - Hoosier and everyone who has autox'd or tracked the 04's has suggested higher air pressures. They corrected the issue on the new ones so you won't cord the outside edge like before.

Yeah, not all R compounds are the same. The Hoosiers tend to let go pretty quick. Then the 710's are more predictable but don't quite have the ultimate stick but last longer. I have yet to try others.

Cheades, That's intresting about the 04 Hoosier, I didn't have that problem and never heard about it. But I wasn't running it on a BMW.

The SE30's run 205/50 RA-1's as the spec tire size for 15 in rims.

JoshH - I am going mostly off what I have read from other people, I haven't had that much experience with the Hoosiers yet. Should know a lot more though after the next few weeks.

I don't want to drag this post off topic too much, but it must be a bit different on the two coasts. I remember talking with a few spec e30 racers here in Seattle and they were happy they could start using 15's.

That's cool, as far as I know there are only 1-3 SE30 guys on the entire West Coast.
