I totally understand the OP's position. My wife is a full time stay at home mom and it can be difficult finding time to explore your hobbies while making sure your partner has the same opportunity. Hell, I've had a new set of injectors and FPR sitting on my workbench for two weeks now because I just can't seem to find the hour to swap them out.

Sounds like your wife will have a lot going on that week, I applaud you for looking at the situation from her point of view as well. Some other aholes would just tell their "woman" that they were going to the track and deal with it. You'll have other opportunities, just make sure your wife knows the sacrifice you're making now so you don't get any slack next time.

Offer to "swap out" weekends. Meaning that you will give her a weekend completely off and the freedom and money equal to a track weekend to do something she would like in exchange for a track weekend. If she balks, make it two weekends for one track weekend.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I've taken a different approach in past years and will do it again, I tallied up the cost for a family outing to the closest 6 flags amusement park, then showed her how much cheaper* it was for both of us to drive in the auto x. I said it's just like going on a roller coaster, but you get to control it. She did pretty good, beat the other girl that was in our class, I took second in the class with a lowly raisin of a 318i. She had a blast and I think that helped open her eyes a bit more to understanding the appeal of it to me. She's not as dedicated to the cars or as interested, so she did not participate in the next one even tho I "tried" to convince her to drive again, she settled for passenger at the next event sighting the cost as her excuse. I considered it a shake down event, testing the endurance of the car, felt pretty confident in it at the following event..

          * durable wear and tear expenses excluded, I factored fuel cost, an extra oil change, and event fees, plus cost to pack food and drinks and other stuff like that for a day outdoors. When compared to an amusement park, or a pack of lift tickets, travel expense and jacked up food prices for a ski resort, it was really quite the bargain for a weekend's entertainment.

Have the in-laws come and baby sit at the race while you both drive.

Unfortunately, Auto-X is at the cheaper end of the hobby.. It's a little easier sell..

            As far as costs go:

Autox < weekend at the coast < Track day < Family trip to nearest amusement park < Boobjob < Weekend of Club racing
            1991 325i MT2 Touring (JDM bro)
            2016 Ford Flex
            2011 Audi A3 - wife's other German car

I give it to her up the butt then she doesn't want anything to do with me for a few days.
