I am definitely nowhere near the point of wanting or needing aero, and I think a lot of people go there before properly setting up their car or learning how to drive it.
    100%

I admittedly just like aero b/c its functional "styling"

you could make a fiberglass bellypan for pretty cheap but most people use aluminum for its strength properties. Composites tend to shatter where as aluminum will absorb most of the energy of something that would otherwise destroy your oilpan. If it's strictly a track car I would go with a composite under tray to reduce drag, I don't see it being worth trying to make an entire under tray to try to get downforce, it would be outrageously expensive IMO.

A lot of people use aluminum sheet or alumalite.

very good point - it'd prob have to be carbon? which would jack the price way up for not that much pay off.

could you mount a piece of plywood or ABS or something beneath to make the bottom flat? That was always something I thought of for the e30. Maybe split it based on where the exhaust falls? Would that render the flattening of the underside completely useless? Or just make it a little less effective?

edit: I know why does a guy with a vert want to talk areo haha

Lack of interest, less of a return compared to front and rear aero. I'm not sure how much side skirts are going to do on a car without a flat bottom and not making downforce from the underbody. We're making downforce (or at least less lift) on the exterior body mainly. But like I said, some garden edging and some rivits and it's done, so stay tuned.

Any theory why most of the cars pictured in this thread have got to great lengths for front and rear aero but haven't even put on a simple side skirt?

I notice that most aggressive aero E30's don't run any side skirt. Is our curved rocker panel ideal?

No dyno's or power figures just road tuned AlphaN. If had to guess a mild street build like this has made about 280hp flywheel. But torque is excellent for a 4pot.
I just started back with NASA in 2014 when finished the motor. Messed with cam timing over the years to find what it likes. Trying the all ducted front this year soon and tweaked the cam timing once again. This is a street car build S14 with goals for torque and 93 pump gas. Topend runs stock valves and schrick 292/284. Suspension setup is close to specE30 with additional bracing.
    build is on S14power.com
