Toyo announces 200 UTOG series tire for your rat racer

At what point does a street tire become a race tire? That is a question that, while debatable in theory, is dictated in the racing world only by the rulebook.

    Let the tire war begin.

    Ha.

12 years ago, I had a set of RA1's that had a treadwear rating of 40. Maybe it was 60.

Then they became the Speedvision World Challenge tire for a season, the number
went to 100, and near as I can remember, nothing but the number changed. The next
set I bought handled pretty much same as the last, and my lap times went down like you'd
have expected with a set of new tires.

I'm having that deja vu feeling all over again...

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

RA1's were 50 for the longest time. I have some of them kicking around that I use on the street for fun occasionally.

I had planned to use rival's this year on our lemon but depending on the price I would rather have toyo's.

Between amateur endurance racing and the Sports Car Club Of America's "Street" autocross classes, there's quite a few series now mandating around 200-treadwear rubber. So, of course, different tire manufacturers are "readjusting" ratings of existing tires to cash in on the action.

I hope that is not the case but it sounds like it might be. If they just added tread they will chunk too.

I ran a set of R1R's at a couple of DE's this year. They were excellent. I would have preferred shaving them, but this is great news for the chumper crowd...

Read an article about this. Apparently the only thing they have changed is the writing on the sidewall. Really bends the line of following the rulebook
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

Yeah I have read a few saying the same thing so expect them to chunk at full tread.

I've been hearing that all sizes will have the "pixie dust" build where they're sticky all the way through, like the 195/50-15s and possibly some other sizes were in 140tw last year.

This tw change is mostly to accomodate the SCCA autox crowd, and I suspect the overall changes will be minimal other than the number on the sidewall.
