    AutoX - 2 problems.

    1) AutoX is a very specialized type of racing that rewards a specific type of car as opposed to overall performance. BMW owners have referred for years to the fact that although BMW's are not the best in any one category, it's the whole package that makes the cars excel.
    2) E30's are 15-20 years old.
It's hard to make rules on type of car, weight, displacement, HP, etc. that allow for the above.

That sentiment is all nice and good, except that it really doesn't take into account that the e30s are relatively competitive in DSP currently, maybe not so much at the national level unless it's prepped to Schipkov levels (and has a Schipkov-level driver), but on the regional level they're very well grouped. Moving these cars to CSP will kill that, as a moderately prepped e30 is not going to have a chance in hell going against an equally moderately prepped miata with the same HP, and 800 lbs less weight. This isn't "oh, give the e30 some breaks so it can be an overdog", it's "don't stick it into a class where it will be completely destroyed, again".

Personally, I'm going to refer to my previous statement: Fuck the SCCA. It's been two years since I let my membership lapse, and I don't regret it for a second. Between these stupid political debacles in Solo, the outright clusterfuck with the IT classes in club racing, the nonsense such as the SIR on the e36s, and the outright head-up-their ass mentality regarding the PDX/Solo Trials program with the apparent desire to just see it go away, there's nothing in the SCCA for me. They've blown it with their solo program, there is no desire to establish a "ladder" from cone dodging to actual W2W racing. There is no desire to class cheaper, newer cars into their club racing ranks so that a younger group of racers might actually want to show up. That might upset the 65 year olds and their 50 year old MGs still racing.

So where is there a stepping stone for SCCA? In obscure parts of the country?? I've never heard of anything besides SoloII.

NASA seems to have a better "game plan". What are their events like, and how much does one weekend cost?

I was thinking about getting a Miata for Solo, but maybe I should just stick to a marque with good connections to driving schools (even welcome to PCA ones...) and a potential of CR. Does NASA have anything for E30s?

And that is exactly why they need to reclass the whole field. But there are far too many that would whine about the whole thing, even if their cars were actually classed properly. They've already make a few huge mistakes and they will never get away from those now.
NASA has it's own problems btw. Much better than the SCCA and much more noob friendly but far from problem free.

As far as I've seen, kids don't do autocrossing much because they know they will actually find out that they might suck. And I hate to say this but most youngins are far too F&F to autocross...so they stick with drag racing which takes little skill at the lower levels.

If DSP is "broken" then so is CSP.

As far as I see it the SEB is comprised of autocrossers. That's like having the fox what the hen house.
