Is one pretty good resource. It is a bit early in the track season to be looking for events, but there are events at Sebring & Homestead on the calendar.

don't completely write off autox. tracking is definitely worth it, but autox has its merits too - it can be quite competitive, not something you should be looking for at an HPDE. also, track days can get very expensive when you add in the cost of brakes, tires, and other equipment. I'd definitely try to attend at least one or two HPDEs a year, but for all those other weekends when there is no track day autox satisfies the racing itch quite well.
also, consider going to some of the events run by the smaller clubs around your area. everyone talks about the SCCA autocrosses, but really unless you are a driving god you are going to get your ass kicked up, down and sideways. at the smaller events a lot of times you will get many more runs (I got 12 at the last event I went to) and the competition is much tighter. when I feel like getting my ass handed to me I go down south where all the pro drivers race..
personally I'm going crazy waiting for this years autox season to begin - the last event I was at was in october and I won't be able to make any more until march at the earliest. :(

Nando is right about the costs for HPDE, sure they are lots of fun and more driving for your money. But they can cost almost 10 times an autox depending on tires, brakes, entry fee, driving distance to the event. The other thing is the two really don't compare when it comes to driving experience, autox is just constant turning with no breaks in the action but you have usually a fair bit of time between corners in a lapping day.

yes i know he's right and i'm thinking along the same lines for exp purposes. i might drive in a small parking lot cone-style auto-x event this weekend. im not rich either, but i will gladly spend money on driving expenses just not $300entry fees every other weekend. I'm kind of compiling links and what not so if you have any info to go along with this thread PLEASE post!No more e30s for me.

I've done a couple HPDE events and about a full season and a half of auto-x and it's like comparing apples and oranges. A car setup for autox isn't the same thing as a car setup for a track use. Also, HPDE and Track days aren't really exactly the same thing. Full out track day would be something like SpecE30 (since we are talking e30s) and HPDE is limited to your skill level as you'll have access to instructors to go with for a session or two.
I would say start with autox to get the hang of it, you are better off losing control of your car at a huge empty lot with cones than on a track with other cars around you or a wall. Once you learn the car a little bit, pay the $150-300 for HPDE and you'll love it. It's not that hard on the car really, it depends on how you drive (are you smooth or will you be yanking on the steering wheel while your tires are way beyond their traction limiting point). I've seen people come out in rental cars and have fun, you'll still learn a thing or two even in a stock car .

Autocrossing is just as fun but theres less of it....and you have to work.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

DEs are definitely more driving for the money, but I will definitely continue to do both, just doing more autocrosses because it's easier on the wallet.
