    autox (06/16/07) - new hoosiers

I love new tires! I can definitely tell that my old hoosiers were dead after using my new A05s saturday. I think I could have probably pushed even harder, but I was happy with my time of 39.240, with the FTD being 36.5 in a ~300whp turbo miata. I bet justin wants new tires now, as he was only about 6/10ths faster than me this time :p

    here's the video:

it's kind of big, I really need to find something to compress them better.

I was working hard on shuffle steering rather than hand over hand; the course had more long sweepers so it was easier for me to focus on my hands. I also took alex's advice and stayed on it when the rear started to break loose (it only really did it twice). Before I was lifting and it just caused snap oversteer. I ran more pressure (it was cooler), 40psi in the rear and 47 (!!!) up front. it worked fantastic!

here's a couple pics of justin's and my car:

I placed 1st in my class but there wasn't much competition. oh well, winning
    is still winning :p

oh, the rattling sound in the first run is my ash tray full of change; yes it was VERY annoying. lol.

you mean on justin's car? I think it's 20mm, but he's also running 20mm spacers.

Great video Chris, that was a really fun course, high speed and we got 5 runs; I actually prefer those shorter "sprint" style courses. Same layout on Sunday, but the finish was now the start, and vice versa.

Looks like you took great advantage of those sticker Hoosiers, but I was still a bit surprised the tire temps were so low (even on the cooler day that it was) "A" compound Hoosiers really seem to have a narrow operating range, tire blankets or a co-driver would have been helpful on Saturday.

I think my A3S05's have just about had it... dual driving them on Bob's Miata on that really warm day may have finished them off. Although my car has never felt better balance and power wise, the overall grip was just very low. Sunday was MUCH better for me, and I learned some valuable tire lessons that day.

btw-I could have sworn your fastest (5th run) was a 39.8xx????

Too bad I couldn't make it out this week. It was getting tight with the whole...haven't worked in 6 months gig and wanting to buy a core motor next Saturday for my stroker buildup. I will see you guys in August for sure.
