Ahh, forgot about this thread... here's a little update.
Within 3 days of Liberty Bell being approved to continue the zoning permit process, the approval was appealed by the community. They were saying things like "It's going to bring carrying on and fighting into town". Just imagine, an entire motor sports complex being shut down before it even starts, by people who say things like that.
Ignorance is awesome.
At least Thunderbolt is going good. We can only hope for this one. Good thing there is a dedicated person behind the operation - he's been trying to get this project going for 7 years!
hope it works out. can't those ignorant townsfolk understand that it is going to bring in revenue and jobs to their town or are they not interested in jobs?

No! It's going to bring FIGHTING and NOISE and HORRIBLE THINGS.
The thing is, the general population is ignorant towards most things, including this motorsports park. And the economy.
The neighborhood around Portland International Raceway has been trying to shut the track down for years. (Failed again buttheads, it's getting re-paved). In a hearing, they claimed the track promoted alcohol abuse, drugs and prostitution. What a bunch of tards.

If racetracks brought an increase in prostitutes, I would spend more time there. Actually, same goes for drugs and alcohol.
Some comments from readers of the article, showing how much the people know about HPDE's, road racing, and tracks in general.

It this place gets built I'm sure it'll attract the highest element of society. Get ready for old tires and motor oil dumped on the side of the road, fights, and all sorts of wonderful things in addition to the noise and exhaust.

Congrats Mr. Mascaro - I can't wait for the tracks to be open and run my car with all the other dregs of society who drive Corvettes, Ferraris, Lambos, etc.

Corvettes, Ferraris, Lambos? LOL. More like Mustang 5.0s, IROCs, and Chargers. You don't see a whole lot of high end sports cars driving around Berks county and I kind of doubt people with the money to buy them would frequent this place.

What person in their right mind would drive a $100,000 plus Ferrari on the same track as some yahoo driving a $2,000 piece of junk who thinks he's the next Dale Earnhardt?
This guy actually has a brain:

I'm sure there will be a whole committee of elderly that will do anything thing they can to keep our area from prospering. Let's just sit and watch all those tourist dollars go across state lines. I know that Birdsboro doesn't need the jobs anyway. All those beautiful, abandoned factories are doing just fine for the community. But at least there won't be that damn track. Will Berks countians ever want to move out of the stone ages?
the sad part is that even once it gets built (if it actually does) the locals will still continue to bitch and complain even after they realize that roadcourses don't attract the same crowd as a dirt track or an oval. Apparently none of them have realized that there are no grandstands in the plan, therefore it is not being built for spectator racing. The residents will end up turning into another Limerock; noise restrictions and probably no racing on sunday. Obviously these people don't understand that Jesus was a racecar driver...
