    FYI: Tire Balancing

I bought my tires at Discount/America's Tires in June of this year, and have since put about 4K on them. They have also seen two weekends of tracking at Buttonwillow. I felt a slight vibration after this past weekend at BW, and took the car to Discount/America's where they re-balanced free of charge since I bought the tires there. It turns out that two wheels were .25 off and one was .5 off. I didn't have the presence of mind to ask which unit of measure these are, but I presume they are in ounces. The slight vibration is gone.

The point if this post is that even with a relatively low amount of miles and tracking, wheels can become unbalanced. The ensuing vibration will damage or prematurely wear your wheel bearings, suspension bushings and steering rack if left unchecked.

The cool thing about Discount/America's is they are happy to rotate and re-balance as part of their program. This is true for the Anaheim location, YMMV at other locations.

    That's all.

common problem as tires wear esp. after being tracked.

The balancing could be slightly off after driving on newly mounted tires for the first time. It doesn't take much, unfortunately e30s are very sensitive to the wheel balancing.

Didn't know that about E30's, but it looks like most bimmers are like that - E39's are very sensitive to torque on the lugs and balancing, as well, but the balancer plays a large roll, too. E39's like the Hunter Roadforce. Is there anything special the E30 needs?

this is prevalent with those stick on weights they use nowadays. racer guys use aluminum heating duct tape to keep the weights from flying off. .
