          3.73 with a 3.0L M50 and Getrag 260.

I like this gear for the highway, though around town there are times when I'd rather have a 3.46 or maybe even 3.25. 3.73 works well on the highway for me, I drive about 68-70mph and get killer gas mileage with this diff.

On my local track (CMP), the 3.73 works well but a 3.91/4.10 would be better. I've run the track with stock sized tires and with super short tires (equated roughly 3.95 gearing, and I could negotiate the back section much better in 3rd gear by not dropping below 4000rpm. Through the higher speed corners, I was able to use 4th instead of being at the top of 3rd...I prefer not to be at 6000+ through a steady state sweeper.

          All in all...the 3.73 is a great gear for an M20 'i' car, an M50/E30 or even a 318is.

Ok. I did the inaugural run of the 330 yesterday at an autox. The 4.10 was AWESOME on the course that we had. I wish I had been able to get video, but my batteries, all three pairs, were crap. I was able to stay in 2nd gear the whole time. I was running in SM and was a mere one second off the fastest SM car (Mustang). I placed 4th out of about 10 SM entries. Awesome gearing for autox'ing.

Hell yea, nice job. What tires did you use? How was traction overall?

I was using the BFG KDW II's. I found out that I need a whole lot more rear bar. I was able to compensate by dropping the front tire pressure and increasing the rebound stiffness of my Koni's. Traction was surprisingly pretty good.

                      Hi Joel

Still looking for a nice 3.25LSD in DFW area... just thought I'd toss it out there. Jordan sadly only had 1 that was apparently rusted to hells... so anyways if anyone else in Texas has a bunch of diffs they could look through and check for a 3.25... please do.

what tire pressure were you running?

we (einstein57's e30) started at 36 front and 34 rear, but it was hell hot that day, so after our first run, pressure came up to 38 front left, 37 front right, 37 rear right and 35 rear right... we kept messing with the pressure until it became stable at 33 front and 32 rears.... he has a 3.73 rear end, z3 short shifter, no chip and it didn't feel right. chip is definitely a must, so redlines goes up to 7000rpm which will allow us to stay in 2nd a bit longer. we beat a couple of corvettes that were in STX while we were in STS, :)

bottom line is; his tire sucked (well, they were okay, it did it's job, but not correctly)... do not race with NEOgens... better racing with Falken 615s from my experience.

4.45 open diff(and m20 flywheel) keep my m42 on a boil at the autocross. And puts the revs at about 3100 RPM at 62MPH
