DSP E30's. your thoughts? Especially Garrick, and Alex

I still want to do the SM thing......But I'm thinking of stopping by DSP for a couple years to get back into the groove of things........But if things look good there 'maybe' I will stay.

So how competitive are the E30's. I know Alex's car is nationally competitive, but how does your cars prep compare to Shields car?

Based on the weight of my car I think an upper 2400lb DSP E30 is possible.

One hiccup in the DSP-SM deal is the sunroof. I want to remove it. Any E30's in DSP ALLOWED to remove the sunroof?

When the car is flared and painted I'll paint a glass hood, front bumper/fascia/splitter at the same time. And save it for that move to SM.

As a PS anyone want a co-driver this year?

so no interest.?. I guess I'll post in my own thread.:D

A SM E30 gets what I can think of below OVER a DSP E30.

Fiberglass hood, Z3 or E36 M3 rack, removal of front bumper fascia and a new F/G 1 piece part, roll center spacers up front, DOUBLE the HP or more, carbon fiber sunroof,.

I'm going to say about 100-150lbs lighter than a DSP E30, the ability to correct the rear negative camber and toe issues (almost correct), ability to address front roll center height, BETTER WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION/CG HEIGHT, and DOUBLE stock HP......and some aero work, which 'can' actually add several hundred lbs downforce at autox speeds.

Realistically though the biggest difference all comes from the HP!

Well, that means nothing. Different drivers, different abilities.

HP is everything when your driving is nearly peaked and the rest of the car is fully built.

Tell Alex he can have 10 more hp for $1000 on his DSP e30... I bet he pays for it.

Think DSP is a smart choice and the E30s are quite compeditive as has been shown the past couple years. There are others out there but just aren't going to National Finals due to cost and time issues.
I didn't see a big difference in times between Garricks car, but he is a better driver, and honestly I didn't see a lot of help with the extra power, think downforce mods would have helped a lot. a 8sqft. wing provides a LOT of downforce properly designed for low-speed.

I tried to get some old manuals and sales brochures from when E30s were new, but couldn't find any conclusive evidence of either way with sunroof.
I contacted BMW about this, but got nowhere.

            Email me about co-driving.

What's the minumum weight for E30 in SM?

            Thanks,
            Alex.

                ^ LOL

I was also considering DSP, but I can't enter DSP legally right now. Looking at the times at least at the local level, top DSP cars are sometimes faster than SM cars....

I really want a SM car but the best way to go for a 2WD has to be to pick up a high mileage E36 325 and build that....

In DSP I really want to be able to dump the sunroof.

Beyond that I kinda like working withen a more restrictive rule set. It's neat to have to REALLY search for things that fit withen the rules.....And since there is less freedom I'll have to start weighing everything to reduce weight as much as possible.

Update backdate is the only way you will be able to rid yourself of the sunroof.

                      right.

And finding wether or not there was a six cylinder car available with one is pretty hit or miss. The burden of proof is on the protester so it would be just as hard to protest a car without one, but I'd feel alot better KNOWING I could remove it instead of being an ass and saying prove it.

                        THANK YOU!!

A good friend of mine was doing tech at Nationals when a stock Mini rolled up. It had 2* of camber (you can't get that stock). They said the car had been in an accident.

Yeah when you get to that level that stuff can and does happen. I happen to know for a fact one AS C4 driver recommended taking a sledgehammer to the upper control arm mounts to gain negitive camber legally :)

i'm going to run either SM or OSP. The OPS class is dead in these parts and could use some revival.

Aren't accentric bushings legal before you get to SM? I have a meeting to go to in a little bit, so when I get back I'll peruse the rule book again.

But I know the service manual makes mention of using those bushings to get back to stock spec, which should make them legal in many classes.
