While studying in Germany, my buddies and I took the opportunity to see some real racing at the Circuit de Catalunya.
Getting to the track cheaply was a bit of a pain. We walked to train to bus to airplane to bus to train to subway to train to walking again. Luckily trains are covered by our Eurorail passes and the plane tickets were $0 aside from some small taxes.

Good thing the RedBull girls were there on Friday morning to give us some free energy to watch the practice.

The track was one of the nicest I've seen.

Practice begins.

The Porsche cup cars were fun to watch and probably went off track more than any of the series that weekend.

GP2 cars practicing.

Drivers' parade.

Certainly no shortage of Alonso fans on race day. Some even left once his car lit on fire and was out of the race.

Three of us had "cheap" tickets on the grass, but one friend is what some might call a "superfan." He buys good seats and makes a point of sneaking into the pits with full BMW livery. Here he is with a team member.

Here's the corner where Kovalainen crashed due to wheel malfunction. I was a little too far to get a decent picture with my camera, and the track workers had it covered in a tarp while they cleaned up anyway. Good thing he's OK and will race in Turkey.

Kimi wins and Ferrari has a 1, 2 finish.

We were burnt and tired and dehydrated and hungry, but it was worth it...even if it was devoid of the tire squeal and smoke I love so much.
