If he has one, why not? And if he doesn't have one, purchase of same would be a prudent action.
There's no such thing as being over prepared when it comes to safety. A full cage, on-board fire suppression gear, fire suit, and HANS aren't excessive at driving schools.
Sliding tethers and/or QD are nice, but hardly essential. A Hans does take a bit of getting used to, but once you've become accustomed to wearing it the only time you'll notice the tethers is in the paddock when entering or leaving your parking spot. A spotter is very helpful for that. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Glad to hear it!"I shopped around and finally found my way to www.apexperformance.net"
Just wanted to also give thumbs up to apex, bought my seats/rails from them, very positive experience
I played around with the car and drove it around my neighborhood and parked and got in and out and played with the QD's and checking my visibility and everything was good for me. It is kind of difficult the first couple of times for sure... Until I got used to the movement of the QD it was easier to remove the whole teether.
That is my personal feeling but to each their own.If he has one, why not? And if he doesn't have one, purchase of same would be a prudent action.

I will second that Linda @ Apex is awesome.
My last order, she answered the "live support" link on their website at like 11:30 on a Tuesday. Got me what I needed ASAP and she offers a nice discount for Bimmerforums members.
WHen I order my HANS, I am getting it from there.Current Cars2014 M235i2009 R56 Cooper S1998 M31997 M3Comment

Congrats on the new HANS.
I just added the sliding teather to mine and it made it a little more confortable.
Hey Charlie, take a chill pill. I don't think it's cool to give this guy a hard time because he is using safety equipment. Too many people spend that "extra" $500 bucks on go fast goodies while neglecting safety.Comment

Yes they are easy to connect once strapped in.
Kudos to spending the $$ on a HANS....many BMW racers had to be forced to spend the money due to rules.Comment

Yah I was at Barber last weekend and had no problem strapping them down once in the seat.
Was great!

I don't recommend wearing the HANS in a car without harnesses. The owners manual is a little vague on this point but does go so far as to specify a minimum of at least half coverage over -each- side of the device, implying two shoulder belts. Three-point belts in a student's car will not give you that coverage.
Imho, HPP would do well to clarify this point.- Sco

That is what I gathered as well after talking to people.
Once I get more into instructing it seems the new theme is to build CMod/IP cars and bring them out when you are a D student so maybe most people will have the passenger side harness :)
