    Because welded diffs are retarded. They promote understeer, which is the opposite of drifting. A limited slip differential will allow the car to initiate a turn and then apply power to both wheels when you add throttle, which if you know what you're doing certainly sounds like a drift to me...

    I really don't think tearing down and rebuilding a LSD would be tough at all. And there are parts available to do some mods while your in there, most importantly changing the ramp angles.......Fuck welding the diff.

    OP get an lsd and shim it ;) you'll do fine. it just takes more work to drift an underpowered car, your m20 is up to the job though.

    drift boner kids with their 240s and corollas weld their diffs because finding a factory clutch-type LSD in good condition is like finding a unicorn

    we are lucky that clutch-type LSDs are so common in our cars, it makes them so much cheaper, and they work well enough for the beginner.

    I would love to eventually switch to a 2-way LSD though.
