    Oil cooler & Accusump

In my e30 M3 w/ s50b32, I am about to plumb up my oil cooler, and Accusump system.

Here is the setup I was originally thinking of going with:

VAC billet oil filter housing block -> remote oil filter -> e30 M3 oil cooler -> 2qt Accusump located in passenger footwell -> back to VAC oil block.

I realized though after my last track day that my headers got hot enough to melt my passenger side motor mount and since my oil lines will have to pass through that area to get my Accusump to the passenger footwell, it might be a good idea to plumb in the cooler after the Accusump.

    So, I thought of doing:
VAC billet oil filter housing block -> remote oil filter -> 2qt Accusump located in passenger footwell -> e30 m3 oil cooler -> back to VAC oil block.

Does this setup make sense? Do any of you track guys have any recommendations?

    Thanks

    Erik

Setup sounds good. I am assuming you are just going to T into the line going to the oil cooler for the Accusump. Why not use a Setrab cooler?

No, I'm going to run all -10 stainless steel lines.
It will all be hooked up in a loop as stated above. No T-ing needed.

I'm just not sure which route to go with. Accusump before or after the cooler.

Since it is going to be running down the passenger side fender well I would run it pre-cooler.

Oil doesn't flow through the accusump so having it between the motor and the cooler wouldn't make much sense. You would want to T into the return side from the cooler. Be sure and add the extra oil need for the accusump, I know its a "duh" kind of thing but trust me put a label on something.

Oh, i see. That makes sense. So I'll just T it in right after the cooler.
            Thanks.

Just remember the filter housing has a thermostat between the return line and the motor. If the oil is not up to temp, the discharging accusump will have to force oil through the closed thermostat. Gee, I wonder why my housing leaks....

He won't have to worry about that since he isn't using the S54/Euro filter housing. He stated he will be running the VAC billet housing.

Personally I would call Tony at VAC and see what he says.

I had this setup (minus the accusump) in my previous E30. VAC Block--->Mocal Oil cooler--->Peterson remote oil filter--->back to the VAC block. At the time, which was 4 years ago, Tony recommended that the accusump be plumbed directly to one of the spare ports on the VAC block. Again, call Tony.

Also, you mention that you are going to put the Accusump inside the car. Is this a track car only or will this see some street duty. I would recommend you keep the accusump out under the hood if you are going to street this car. The battery tray on the passenger would work perfect.

Here is a pic of my old motor. You can see the port on top of the oil block with the blue anodized plug. Its right underneath the oil temp sender wire. This is the location that Tony recommended.

I've actually been emailing Tony about my setup, but he didn't recommended I plumb the accusump to those extra ports. We were not discussing the Accusump though as I was asking more about the fitment of the AN fittings on the VAC piece to the Euro Vanos oil reservoir.
I'll see if doing that would make sense for my setup.

This car is a strictly track car so I'm not worried about putting the Accusump unit inside the cabin. The battery tray would not work at all because that is where my coolant reservoir is located.

Why did you place your filter after your cooler?
